HEALTHCARE bosses in Barnsley have praised a Grimethorpe surgery for taking steps towards bettering its services after a damning report.

Caxton House, on High Street, was criticised by the Care Quality Commission in April 2015 and spent six months in special measures, its lowest category for failing surgeries.

It was found that the practice did not have a clear system in place for handling complaints, there were no written records of complaints received and no system to record verbal concerns.

Cleanliness and infection control also came under fire, while inspectors raised concerns that the needs of the local population were not fully identified or taken into account when planning services.

However, a six-month check-up was carried out by CQC inspector Steve Field in November, who noted that improvements had been made since the original ruling was published, and the surgery has now been praised by Barnsley NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for getting out of special measures.
