A NATIONALLY recognised gardener has put together plans for the re-development of Owd Martha’s Yard.
As part of the ongoing efforts to develop the land behind the Belmont club, Hoyland’s own green-fingered Neville Fearon has drawn a set of watercolour plans to give his vision of how the community garden should look.
Neville, 75, said: “It’s just a set of ideas really. I don’t want people thinking that I’m the know-it-all and they can’t change anything. It’s for the community to change and develop as they want.”
The plans show grass for the children to play, lavender patches for the bees, shrubs and perennials, vegetables patches, buddleias for butterflies and compost bins.
Neville added a personal note attached to the plans which said that all the proposals could be varied and changed according to community wishes.
Neville, of Southlea Avenue, Hoyland, is modest for a man who was a runner-up in the 2000 Daily Mail National Garden Competition.
