A FAMILY from Las Vegas in America says there is no plaice like Gordon's fish and chip shop in School Street, Darfield.

When the family visit relatives in Stockport, they make a detour and head for the Darfield chippie where they tuck into their favourite meal.

Owner Gordon Dumbrell, 60, said:"The family have come on numerous occasions. They used to visit a woman in Darfield but she has since died but 12 or 13 members still drive over and have their fish and chips and then move on. They said our fish and chips are the best."

Gordon is calling it a day at his chip shop, after 21 years, and retiring with his wife, Barbara, to a bungalow in Ardsley.

"I said I would retire at 60," he said. "Fish and chips are more popular than ever. It's no longer a cheap meal but Indian and Chinese takeaways are not cheap either.

" We have enjoyed our time here. We have had some fantastic staff and loyal customers and I would like to thank them."
