A striker from Barnsley who plays for women's football side, the Doncaster Belles, has her sights set on two things – selection for the  England women's under-20s' world cup squad and a career in family law.

Bethany England's ambitions require a gruelling schedule, which includes regular 18-hour days and long train journeys. But with the support of her family, her club and the private BPP University where she has a scholarship - she reckons both are achievable.

Bethany is in the middle of a 12-week pathway to Higher Education Certificate in legal studies at Shepherd's Bush – almost 180 miles from her home in Barnsley.

The 19-year-old, of Kingstone, said: "I spend the week in London and come back home at weekends to work then back to London on Monday morning.

"I work hard doing two night shifts in a fish and chip shop in Barnsley so I can pay my way and be independent, but the BPP scholarship has been a huge help.

"I started studying social work but it wasn't for me but I am really interested in the family side of things and I would eventually like to work in family law."

Bethany, who has played for Doncaster Belles since she was 16, is the first beneficiary of a BPP University sponsorship deal, which gives £30,000 to the club and scholarships for players, which was signed in August.

BPP University, a private university owned and run by BPP Holdings, has offered scholarships for players to study with them and Doncaster Belles has agreed to take on interns to help build the business side of its operation.

Carl Lygo, who heads up BPP, was born in Doncaster, practised locally as a barrister and went to school with some of the former great names of Doncaster Belles, like Kaz Walker.

He said: "We were keen to forge a proper relationship with the club when we signed the sponsorship deal and we're delighted it's already working in the way we had anticipated."
