A TEAM of Barnsley runners took part in the Every Minute Matters Relay this week in a bid to inspire supporters to learn lifesaving CPR.

The Sky Bet EFL Every Minute Matters Relay, which kicked off on March 25, is a gruelling 4,000-kilometre, 28-day journey that will feature 72 legs stopping off at each and every EFL club before culminating at Wembley on April 21.

On Tuesday, the event came to Barnsley with a team of relay runners - which included boxer Callum Simpson and former club physio Chris Sedgwick - travel to Huddersfield Town in a 30-mile trek.

Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation are calling on fans of Barnsley to get behind the relay by donating time not money - it takes just 15 minutes to learn CPR with BHF’s free online tool, RevivR.

Dr Charmaine Griffiths, chief executive at the British Heart Foundation, said: “The Every Minute Matters campaign is truly lifesaving.

“Hundreds of thousands of people have already been encouraged to learn CPR, and through the efforts of participants and talent taking part in Sky Bet’s EFL Relay, we know many more will be inspired to learn this vital skill.

“We were cheering on Barnsley FC employees and want to thank them in joining the BHF’s mission to ensure more lives are saved from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.”
