BARNSLEY will look to end a four-match winless run, and collect their first victory under Conor Hourihane, when they visit Wigan Athletic for a 3pm kick-off.
The Reds are 11th in the table, eight points off the top six – following a 1-1 draw at home to lowly Cambridge United on Saturday which ended a three-game losing streak.
Interim boss Hourihane has taken a point from his two games having taken over from the sacked Darrell Clarke earlier in the month.
The Reds have collected 11 points from their last 13 matches
Barnsley have the fourth best away record in the division while no side has won more than their ten games on the road.
They could still surpass the club record they equalled last season of 12 away victories.
Barnsley have eight games to play, starting against Wigan who are currently 18th in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone and ten behind the Reds.
They sacked Shaun Maloney at the start of the month after more than two years in charge and replaced him with former Bury, Plymouth and Preston boss Ryan Lowe. He won 1-0 at home to Cambridge in his first game then saw a 2-1 loss in his second at high-flying Charlton Athletic two weeks ago.
Wigan are the lowest scorers in the division with 33 goals in their 36 games but have the best defensive record outside the top six, having conceded just 36 goals.
The Latics have former Barnsley defender Toby Sibbick while Reds forward Stephen Humphrys was Wigan’s top-scorer last season.
The teams have faced each other twice already this season and 20 times in total.
The Reds won on penalties in the EFL Cup in August after a 1-1 draw in which Donovan Pines scored.
The Latics then won 1-0 at Oakwell in the league in November, a first victory in six meetings of the clubs which kept up their record of never losing in the league at Oakwell. But Barnsley have a good record in Wigan, winning four of the last six visits in all competitions.
They won 2-0 there last season with goals by Devante Cole and John McAtee, after home defender Charlie Hughes had been controversially sent off by referee Seb Stockbridge who is also set to take charge of Saturday’s game.
