A BARNSLEY jazz artist has gone viral almost overnight - and is set to embark on a European and American tour after signing with one of the world’s largest booking agencies.
Catherine Rannus, from Dodworth, has an extensive repertoire from pop to jazz and classical to traditional.
She’s been providing live music for weddings and functions for over 20 years and has quite the local following.
But after meeting with York-based musician Reuben Barrett in August last year, the duo have gone global under the guise of ‘Bolden’.
She told the Chronicle: “We’re about to hit one million monthly listeners on Spotify which is amazing.
“We’re called Bolden and we do jazz-house music.
“I’d say 90 per cent of our fans are outside of the UK.”
Catherine is well-known for her singing exploits, and it’s now her strength on the saxophone that’s shot her to fame.
The duo have some big plans for the future - and after a gig in London earlier this month, they’re now hoping their dreams will come to fruition.
“We did a gig last week,” she added.
“It was our first live show in London.
“It was amazing.
“We’ve just signed with Wasserman who are one of the biggest booking agencies in the world.”
And when you’re signed to such a huge talent agency, there’s no time to waste.
The duo are set to embark on a North American tour later this year.
“It’s looking like we’ll be touring America in November,” she said.
“We’ll be going to LA, New York, Chicago, Miami and then Toronto and Montreal in Canada.
“We’re also planning to do a European tour this year, possibly in the summer.”
But despite being known across the globe, Catherine said it was strange to hear fans singing her song back to her - especially considering how quickly the duo have shot to fame.
Catherine added: “It’s all gone so quickly.
“I’ve only known Reuben since since the start of August after he messaged me on Instagram.
“I’m really excited.
“I’ve written some of the songs so to have the audience singing it back to me was amazing.
“It’s totally different to anything that I’m used to.”
The duo’s latest song, The Proposal, is set to be released today.
“We write everything together,” she said.
“I composed the song so I’ve gone from being a sax player to being a full part of what happens.
“A lot of the time I do covers so it’s really good that I’m able to play my own songs.
“It’s just really exciting.
“It’s a bit overwhelming to be honest.”
You can find Bolden on Spotify, as well as all the social media channels such as Facebook and Instagram.
