THE MICKLEDON Straddle fell race returned after a five-year absence, with Barnsley AC’s Phil Montgomery finishing second.
He completed the 14.3 miles and 2,431 feet of ascent in a time of 1-47-00. Callum Hobson finished in 2-11-59.
George Parr was first back for Penistone Footpath Runners in 19th place with 2-02-09. He was also third under23 man. First woman back for the club was Lesley Parker in 2-33-56.
Nick Whittingham was second over70 man. Mark Law grabbed top spot in the men’s over60 age category in a time of 2-24-43, which was eight minutes ahead of his closest rival.
Barnsley Harrier Paul Johnson finished eighth, Paul Fordham was 102nd with Jo Taylor fifth over40 woman.
Also on the fells, new Penistone members Dave Lovatt and Brent Carlin completed the Tigger Tor Fell Race. Brent was first back out of the pair in 35th place, followed by Dave in 135th.
There were 2,650 finishers Dewsbury 10k including plenty of Barnsley club runners. A total of 27 Penistone runners completed the race, many achieving personal best times. First back for Penistone was Martin Ball, who finished seventh in the men’s over50 age category, which had a field of 192 runners.
Andrew Pearson just missed out on winning the men’s over60 age category, taking second place in a time of 36-57.
Keith Gordon went one better, taking first place in the men’s over75 age category in 51-18.
First woman back for Penistone was Jade Crosby in 41-35. Gemma Nutton continued her fine form with a two-minute personal best in 46-08. Peter Beever’s time of 45-42 also represented a personal best for the 10k distance.
Eleven of the 26 Barnsley AC members to finish recorded PBs. Naomi Drakeford made it three PBs in three weeks for different distances, finishing in 35-03.
There was a podium age category place for new member Helen Morgan who finished as second over55 woman in 41-22.
The other Barnsley AC runners were Chris Gillott (33-04), Bradley Walker (34-06), Jack Bellamy (34-28), Wayne Singleton (34-36), Alan Nutton (35-40), James Roberts (36-22), Lydia Race (37-40), Gemma Thickett (41-42), Dave Findlay (41-49) and Laura Mills (54-25).
Harriers Hannah and Jess Manley knocked two minutes off their 10k PBs.
Kay Conway took 40 seconds off her PB, while Ryan Senior recorded a 73-second PB. Antonette Wilson and Will Grant gained PBs in their first 10ks for the club as did Sarah Stables, knocking two minutes off her best. John Skipper also gained a PB, coming in under the hour.
Dawn and John Broom won prizes at the No Walk in the Park 5k in Chesterfield. Dawn was first in the women’s over55 age category with 21-46, and John was second in the men’s over50 age category with 19-51.
Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood took a second off his course PB with 18-44.
