A LOCAL company has donated £500 to Barnsley Hospital Charity to thank staff for their life-saving skills.

Jane Mills, charity development manager, visited Barnsley Avient’s site in Dodworth to meet the team and hear their stories about the hospital’s neonatal unit.

A driving force behind the donation was Ady Fessey, plant manager.

He said: “The neonatal unit played a huge part in the start of my own sons’ journey into this world.

“I have twin boys aged seven.

“They are very lucky to be in this world.

“They were born at 30 weeks old, three minutes apart.

“My sons had to go on life support machines in the neonatal unit at Barnsley, and with the incredible skills of the teams, the boys have survived to be healthy and strong.

“The neonatal teams coached me and mum in how to handle, love and feed them daily due to the electrodes/pipes to monitor them as they weighed just two pounds each and were only as big as my hand.

“The nice part of the journey over the ten weeks is we knew they were getting stronger, as we moved the boys and their apparatus closer to the exit door at the neonatal reception.

“Logan was home at his 11th week and Landon was home at the 13th week both weighing in at a normal seven pounds.”
