BARNSLEY Council bosses have denied claims they have ‘any form of relationship’ with the landowner of a new development in Staincross.

Planning permission was granted for a total of 46 homes at Paddock Road in Staincross, after applicant RMH Properties submitted their plans to the council.

A question was submitted to the council on behalf of a local resident, who asked if there had been any relationship between a councillor and a landowner.

Bosses have denied these claims.

Coun Robin Franklin, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “No councillor or council employee has declared any form of a relationship with the landowner or associates which could bring them a benefit from the planning permission.

“The application was determined by members of the planning board at their meeting on September 26, 2023, where votes were recorded on the acceptability of the proposal.

“Members resolved to grant planning permission - subject to the Section 106 being agreed - and this process is in line with the council’s constitution.

“Any potential breaches of planning permission would be a matter for our enforcement team to investigate.

“They would determine whether a breach has occurred and if so whether we would take enforcement action in line with the council’s planning enforcement policy adopted by the council in 2023.”
