BOTH Monk Bretton and Dearne were promoted on the final day of the South Yorkshire League season.
Monk Bretton needed to win to secure the third promotion place in Division Two and dismissed Parkhead for 111 in a seven-wicket victory. Steven Honeyman took five wickets.
Dearne beat Wath 3rd XI by 62 runs to claim the second promotion place in Division Nine. Nick Petty – the league’s top-scorer – made 65 not out in Dearne’s 176 then Malcolm Day took five wickets.
Marley Wood, who is Dearne’s joint captain along with Elliot Freeborough, said: “It’s been a challenging season.
“At the start we were struggling for numbers. There are a lot of teams near us and, with us being so far down the divisions, it is hard to keep hold of players. But we got a few determined lads in and came together as a team.
“It came down to the wire and Wath are decent side with good youngsters.
“It was great to get the win and celebrate promotion.”
Kexborough were relegated from Division Three after being dismissed for 98 chasing 178 at home to Sheffield Collegiate 3rd XI. They slipped down a place to third-bottom in the final table because Bradfield won.

Zarmash Tarakhil took five wickets with Mark Wilkinson claiming three.
Tarakhil then made 121 not out off 87 balls with 18 fours and four sixes including a ninth-wicket stand of 68 off 37 balls with George Winter who only faced one ball. Tarakhil scored 1,023 league runs this season, the most in the division, and took 30 wickets.
Cawthorne 2nd XI won by 90 runs at Higham. Harry Sullivan made 55 in Cawthorne’s 183 with Brad Gledhill taking three wickets for Higham and Kyle Clayton five. Liam Carroll took four wickets for Cawthorne, who moved into the third promotion place.
They stayed there the following day as Collegiate – who would have overtaken Cawthorne with victory – saw their final match rained off when they had their opponents 99 for six, so missed out by a point.
