A SPECIAL event for the official reopening of Wombwell Library took place recently.

Refurbishment of the children’s area at Wombwell Library was funded by a £65,570 grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Libraries Improvement Fund, administered by Arts Council England.

The updated space features a sensory story wall, cosy hideaways, bespoke furniture, tiered soft seating and new shelving.

All the new additions have been installed whilst preserving the historic character of the building.

The three Wombwell councillors James Higginbottom, Robert Frost and Brenda Eastwood attended the official reopening alongside the Mayor of Barnsley John Clarke and mayoress Doreen.

Coun Higginbottom said: “It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of the newly refurbished children’s library in Wombwell.

“Fantastic new facilities coupled with a renovation of the existing space - there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

“Why not check it out over the summer holidays?”

Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, added: “Wombwell Library joins a list of other libraries that have seen major transformations across the borough over the past couple of years.

“We hope that the updated children’s area at Wombwell Library will inspire and create more opportunities for children and young people to fall in love with their local library.”
