TWO parks in Wombwell are set to be upgraded after the council signed off on new investment worth more than £100,000.
The Section 106 panel, which allocates funding to community projects financed from developer contributions on housing sites, has approved projects to upgrade play facilities at the Everill Close and Summer Lane public parks and open spaces.
The latter will receive £40,000 worth of improvements whilst Everill Close will receive £70,000.
Planned improvements include the refurbishment of the games areas, children’s play areas and the creation of a mini orchard at Everill Close.
Wombwell’s three local councillors, James Higginbottom, Robert Frost and Brenda Eastwood, told the Chronicle they are delighted with the plans.
They said: “We are very pleased that these improvements have been funded and look forward to seeing the works take place.
“Our parks and public open spaces are invaluable resources for young families and young people to enjoy and we are proud that we are investing in these community assets.
“Thanks must go to Barnsley Council’s parks services for their work in making these projects happen.”
