LAST month’s Barnsley Live music festival raised more than £5,000 for Barnsley Carers Service.

Each year, the multi-venue festival - held in the town centre - features over 200 artists.

Barnsley Carers Service work closely with a wide range of professional health and care services, Barnsley Council, charities and community groups to provide support, advice and training designed to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of local carers.

This year’s event - on June 8 - featured 27 music venues, live music parades through Barnsley town centre and a tipi summer stage at the Glass Works.

Money was raised through bucket collections and a Just Giving fundraising page, so that people could donate even if they were unable to attend on the day.

Anna Barrett, manager at Barnsley Carers Service, said: “We would like to thank Barnsley Live for choosing us as this year’s charity.

“There are an estimated 28,000 people in Barnsley caring for a friend or family member who is ill, frail or disabled.

“They give their time, energy, and care freely, often for more than 35 hours a week.

“We are impressed by everyone’s generosity - the £5,236 raised from the event will help us continue providing vital support for unpaid carers across the Barnsley area.”
