MAPPLEWELL and Staincross Library reopened to residents this week following a major refurbishment scheme.

The library, located in the village hall, was closed to the public in March whilst work was taking place.

The £100,000 transformation of the community library includes layout improvements, new carpets and redecoration, new shelving and furniture and an enhanced children’s library.

Mapplewell and Staincross Library’s refurbishment is part-funded by Barnsley Council’s Principal Towns programme, with additional funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “Mapplewell and Staincross Library, located at the village hall, is one of our busiest branches, so we would like to thank residents for their patience while we carried out the work to make the library offer even better than before.

“Whether you’re borrowing books, using the library for studying, or attending one of our exciting events or activities, we hope you’ll enjoy the newly refurbished space.”

To celebrate the re-opening, Mapplewell and Staincross Library will be hosting an official opening event later this summer - more details will be shared in the due course.
