PARKING enforcement officers will finally tackle problem parent parking around schools in Worsbrough following an almost two-year-long campaign by a local councillor.
Coun Jake Lodge, who represents the area as an independent, first raised his concerns around parking at schools at a full council meeting in November 2022.
He said he has been receiving reports from school bosses and parents over a sustained period of time - and is now pleased that officers will patrol the streets during drop-off and pick-up times.
Jake told the Chronicle: “I’m delighted that we’ll see enforcement officers around schools soon, to protect children and all pedestrians.
“I know as a parent myself how dangerous school pick-up and drop-off time can be and it’s great to have the support of school leaders.
“However, this is only one element of my campaign for safer roads in Worsbrough and I know unsafe and illegal parking is also an issue on other roads across the ward.
“We need to get better and more innovative at tackling it and one thing I’d welcome back is parking enforcement camera vehicles, which were scrapped years ago, but are being used successfully in other authorities.’’
