Penistone Church were beaten 5-0 by Worksop Town in the Sheffield Senior Cup final at Hillsborough on Thursday.
Church beat teams in higher divisions to reach the final but were defeated by a side two tiers above them.
Penistone also just missed out on the play-offs in the NCEL Premier Division.
Manager Steve Lenthall said: “Not the result we wanted. Everybody wants to win a final. But we know what an outstanding team worksop are and they proved it
“They have a great group and played quality football. They dictated most of the game. The lads ran their blood to water which I am proud of them for. “They showed some great character.
“It’s a great way to end the season and we can’t thank the fans enough. We had two bus loads from penistone.”
