A BARNSLEY musician will be celebrating her graduation in an unusual way - by headlining Tramlines.
Hannah Rowe, from Penistone, is currently in her final year studying music at Leeds Conservatoire, and is set to graduate in just a few months’ time.
But while most of her classmates will be at the pub enjoying a well-earned pint, Hannah will be travelling to Sheffield to perform at the massive Tramlines festival on Friday July 26.
“I applied to the Apply to Play scheme they put out,” the 22-year-old told the Chronicle.
“I didn’t really think anything of it at first - I’ve applied to so many things in the past and got back emails saying ‘sorry, this isn’t your year’.
“Then when I was going to practice I got an email saying that I’d got in - then someone called to casually tell me that I’d won and would be headlining.”
The Apply to Play scheme allows emerging artists to get a spot at the festival and take their act to a bigger audience, with Hannah being chosen out of 2,000 hopeful applicants.
She has already had plenty of success as a musician, appearing on The Voice UK in 2022 where she earned a place on Anne-Marie’s team, before being eliminated in the call-back section.
Since then, the singer - who got her start at Barnsley Youth Choir - has continued to progress and is set to host a a gig at the Leeds Wardrobe on April 27, though this Tramlines appearance will be on ‘another level’.
“Graduation’s on the same day, it’s amazing,” she added.
“We’re gonna try and go in our full caps and gowns.
“I’m really excited - people keep asking me how I feel and I just can’t put it into words.”
