MORE than £130,000 will be used to improve two ‘key locations’ in Wombwell thanks to Section 106 funding from developers.
Section 106 funding is money set aside by developers for the local area and, after being signed off by councillors last week, the funding will be used for a number of projects which include improving paths and the Trans Pennine Trail.
The investment will see a new ‘flexipave’ surface and vegetation clearance along the footpath from Lundhill Road down to the Intake Bridge, running alongside the new housing development at Lundhill.
In addition, investments have been approved to upgrade parts of the Trans Pennine Trail and improve signage around Broomhill and Old Moor.
Funded through the Section 106 developer contributions from building on the land east of Lundhill Road, this represents a significant improvement to the local amenity for residents to enjoy.
Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways and Wombwell ward councillor, told the Chronicle: “I’m delighted that the Section 106 panel have approved funding for improvements to the Public Rights of Way in Wombwell.
“These will include upgrades to the footpath between Lundhill Road and Intake Bridge and investment into the Trans-Pennine Trail for walkers and cyclists.
“We’ve got fantastic green spaces for all to enjoy in Wombwell and this investment enables us to keep improving them for the benefit of the whole community.”
