A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been put behind bars after causing death by dangerous driving during a police chase.
In May 2021, Brandon Varley failed to stop for officers after he was spotted acting suspiciously while driving. A pursuit followed with Varley speeding and failing to conform to a number of road directions.
During the pursuit, Varley, driving a black Peugeot, failed to give way at a junction, turning onto Brierley Road, Grimethorpe, and colliding with a silver Ford.
Varley then fled, leaving his three passengers and the passengers of the Ford, including a small child, at the scene.
Father-of-three, 51-year-old Tze Chun Tsang, who was the front seat passenger of the Peugeot, was critically injured during the collision and sadly died a few days later at hospital.
Varley, of West Street, Pontefract, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Monday pleading guilty at an earlier appearance at the same court on August 30 2023. He was sentenced for seven years for death by dangerous driving and received a nine years and eight months driving disqualification.
