TWO Wombwell councillors met with the newly-appointed environmental project officer in the area to discuss the priorities.
Couns James Higginbottom and Robert Frost met with Andrea Walker on Wednesday.
Last year, Barnsley South Area Council commissioned the authority’s neighbourhood services to provide a caretaker team for the south area (Darfield, Hoyland and Wombwell) with a focus on litter-picking, street cleansing and environmental projects to strengthen communities to engage local volunteers.
The environmental project officer is an integral part of that contract, to co-ordinate work schedules and engage with volunteers, schools and businesses in the area.
Coun Higginbottom told the Chronicle: “We are delighted to have Andrea onboard and working with us on all things environmental in Wombwell and the south area.
“Andrea has a wealth of experience as a founding member of the Wombwell Womblers litter-picking group and is a real asset for the community.
“Together, we are building the cleaner, greener and more sustainable Wombwell that we can all be proud to call home.”
