WORLD famous snooker stars will be the first in the £650,000 revamped Metrodome Arena which opens on Monday.

The work has seen a new entrance, lobby, toilets and staircases, as well as new decor and lighting, and the first event will be the World Snooker English Open, which will see stars such as Ronnie O'Sullivan play from Monday.

The work has been carried out by Barnsley firms CD Potters and architect James Bradbury.

The arena has also hosted PDC darts, international boxing, world ten pin bowling, awards evenings, presentations and live music concerts.
