BRAMPTON boxer Josh Wale has joined Robbie Barrett as a British champion.
Robbie, 25, from Darfield, became only the third holder of the Lord Lonsdale belt from Barnsley in 100 years when he won the lightweight belt in April, and Josh, 29, matched his achievements by winning the bantamweight crown on Saturday night.
Josh put in a disciplined display to beat Dundee’s Jamie Wilson unanimously at the Doncaster Dome in front of 1,500 people.
Josh was delighted to finally win the belt at the third attempt after drawing and losing in challenges in 2014 and 2015.
He said: “I have always known there was a British title in me, it was just about getting it done and finally getting over the line.
“To have come so close before makes it even better to win it now.”
