A SHAFTON mum has launched a campaign to bring back the nit nurse after spending hours treating her daughter's hair.

Karen Cocking, of The Green View, is campaigning for a better system to be in place at schools to stop kids getting the itch.

Karen said her daughter Summer Galloway, six, was coming home from Shafton Primary with nits almost every week before the summer holidays.

Nit nurses used to be common place but the practice was stopped in the 1990s because it was considered that children were subjected to humiliation if they were 'singled out.'

Karen has since set up a group on Facebook which has got more than 500 likes, and she has also written to the Prime Minister.

No-one at the school wanted to comment.
