Everyone at Carlton Primary Academy got involved in creating this stunning piece of art.

From foundation stage to year six pupils and from governors to catering staff, they all helped create the school's stunning Nativity scene on display at Barnsley town hall over the Christmas period.

Together they have created the scene which can be enjoyed by everyone who visits the town hall, as it stands just inside the main entrance.

"The idea for the Nativity project came from Russian icons," explained Barnsley Council's Amanda Stoner, visitor services supervisor who was also artist-in-residence at the Carlton Road school.

"It is made from polystyrene sheets glued together and covered with a hard-wearing, flexible silver material.

"Onto that, the children and all their helpers have pushed more than 20,000 shiny sequins, beads and other decorative items."

Teachers and 29 pupils were at the unveiling event in the entrance foyer, where they were congratuled on their work by Barnsley Mayor Coun Ken Richardson. Following the unveiling, the children and teachers were treated to a tour of the town hall followed by lunch with the Mayor.
