BARNSLEY moved up to fifth in the League One table thanks to a 3-0 win against Crawley Town at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon.

Jon Russell opened the scoring in the first half before Max Watters scored against his old club and a Davis Keillor-Dunn wonder-strike gave the Reds all three points.

Head coach Darrell Clarke made three changes to the starting 11 which beat Wrexham 2-1 on New Year's Day.

Kelechi Nwakali started in midfield in place of captain Luca Connell, with the armband being passed onto centre-back Mael de Gevigney.

Georgie Gent made his return to the starting 11 ahead of Barry Cotter, who dropped out of the match day squad entirely.

While Donovan Pines replaced Conor McCarthy in the back three.

Barnsley started the game in sixth while Crawley were sitting in the highest place in the relegation zone.

But it was the away side who had the first real chance of the game on five minutes as Will Swan found himself clean through on goal.

But the Crawley striker could only shoot straight at Ben Killip in the Barnsley goal.

Barnsley's first real chance came with nine minutes on the clock as Davis Keillor-Dunn did well to turn on the edge of the box and fire a great strike at Jojo Wollacott.

The Reds then began to pile on the pressure with strikes from Georgie Gent and managed to take the lead on 11 minutes through Jon Russell.

Corey O'Keeffe did well to beat his man and play the ball back to Russell who was free inside the 18 yard box.

He made no mistake and put the Reds 1-0 up.

The hosts continued to pepper the away side and could have doubled their lead on a number of occasions but efforts from Watters and DKD couldn't find the back of the net.

Crawley did have a number if half chances but failed to really troubled Killip in the Barnsley goal and the Reds went in at the break 1-0 up.

Max Watters made it 2-0 six minutes into the second half, thanks to a bit of luck.

Phillips drove into the box and found Watters whose effort was scuffed but somehow made it into the back of the net.

It wasn't long until the Reds made it three.

Russell and Donovan Pines struggled to keep a hold of the ball in the middle of the pitch but Keillor-Dunn collected it 25 yards out before unleashing a great strike into the corner.

He has scored some wonderful goals since arriving in the summer but that may be the best of the bunch.

Crawley should have pulled one back with 20 minutes to go but first the post, then Killip, came to Barnsley's rescue.

The away side continued to put the Reds under some real pressure in the final minutes but were unable to beat Killip who had a fantastic game.

It's Barnsley's fourth win in four and the Reds have moved up to fifth in the league table.
