TWO kind-hearted locals have given up their Christmas to help out those in need.
While most were at home opening presents, enjoying a new Wallace and Gromit film and probably having a few too many glasses of mulled wine this Wednesday, Andrew Hopkinson who goes by Azza and Alan Leasley were hard at work supporting the most vulnerable people in the community.
Taking place at Thurnscoe’s Church Street Close, the two friends invited anyone who has nowhere to go this festive season to come and enjoy a free hot meal, all of which was donated by the local community.
Azza told the Chronicle: “It’s just because we knew that while most people would be spending time around their family at Christmas, some people haven’t got anyone to be with.
“My children are very small still, so there wasn’t a massive meal for them and I figured I could do something more productive for Christmas Day.
“The support has been overwhelming, breathtaking really.
“People have donated money, drinks, vegetables the whole community has got behind us.
“I’m a professional chef anyway so I actually quite enjoy doing all the cooking.”
