DONOVAN Pines is looking forward to his first experience of Christmas football.
The American defender signed in January having previously spent his career in the MLS which is not playing at this time of season.
Pines told the Chronicle: “Most people would probably be on their second vacation.
“There is a lot of time with families and friends.
“But I would always be eating and watching Boxing Day football.
“It’s interesting and cool that the tides have turned and now I am here for the Christmas games.”
Pines has not been a regular starter for the Reds, firstly due to an injury that ended his involvement last season then Marc Roberts being preferred this season in the middle of the back three.
But injuries have meant he has started the last two games.
“I don’t really think too much of that. You have to be ready and, when your name is called, do the best you can.
“It’s all about staying patient and keeping learning.
“Each and every day I try to ask questions and get better.
“We’re really a positive squad and really encouraging. When we see guys who are down we try to pick them up.
“We’re human and go through ups and downs. We try to be the best team-mates and friends possible so we can progress in games as best we can.”
After winning Pines’ home debut against Derby in February, the Reds have won just two of their 16 league games at Oakwell. They now host Leyton Orient on Saturday.
“Hopefully we can end the year on a high with three points and next year formulate a fortress at Oakwell and get as many points as we can.
“It will be beautiful.”
