BARNSLEY club runners took prizes at the Doncaster City 10k.
Despite Storm Bert and the heavy rain, 2,712 competed in the race, which starts and finishes at Doncaster Racecourse.
Darfield man Bert Beaumont was the oldest competitor in the race and finished 1,652nd in a time of 58-31 which put him first out of five over75s.
Barnsley AC’s Naomi Drakeford finished as second woman in a very close battle with third place.
She set a PB of 35-50.
Dave Findlay also set a PB of 44-38.
Nathan Doy ran a season’s best of 34-26, while Alan Nutton (37-17) and Tommy Fidler (37-50) both recorded their second fastest 10k times.
First back for Penistone Footpath Runners was Sean Pitt in 38-49 followed by Ian Neville in 40-20 which gave him seventh place in the men’s over55 age category. First Penistone woman back was Emma Moore in 45-07.
Three former Barnsley schoolboys, James Watford, Martin Perry and Ben Beaumont took part. James finished 241st in 39-42, Martin 1091st in 51-29 and Ben 1119th in 51-48.
At the Northern Masters Ken Mayor 5k Championships held at the Brownlee Cycle Track in Leeds, Barnsley AC’s Rod Scholes won gold in the male over80 category. His time was 28-13.
Five Penistone runners headed to Cheshire to take part in the Wilmslow Festive 10k. There were age category podiums for Dawn Broom (second over60 woman) and Rachael Mayston (third over50 woman). Dawn’s time was 45-09 and Rachael’s 41-40.
The other Penistone runners were James Mumford (35-44), Martin Ball (37-01) and John Broom (40-21).
Five Penistone runners took part in the Clowne Half Marathon. Simon Pike took a tumble in the race but was still first back for Penistone in 1-34-54. First woman back was Sarah Lee in 1-58-39.
Penistone’s Ian McNulty made the trip to Spain to compete in the Benidorm Half Marathon, finishing in 2-05-43.
Barnsley AC’s Faye Lund finished the Benidorm 10k in 55-31.
