A spot of Belgian luck may have been the reason behind Barnsley FC’s win at the weekend.
Some 12 fans from Antwerp made the 400-mile journey by car and ferry to support the Reds for their last match of the season.
The Belgians attend about ten games a season and have been doing so for about ten years. One of them, Gino, started visiting England to watch football about 27 years ago. But it was when he saw Barnsley play Leeds United at home that his love affair with The Reds began.
He then began to spread the word among fellow Royal Antwerp fans, who have also become Barnsley followers. He said: "I have been to all the football grounds in England. We like Barnsley because the people are friendly, there are good pubs and good beer."
