SUPERJAM is set to celebrate its tenth birthday in a few weeks with a special event.

The dementia friendly tea party held at the Holiday Inn in Dodworth hosted its inaugural event in 2014, organised by Kathy Markwick, Ann Kelly, John Walker and Teresa Jackson and sponsored by Barnsley Rockley Rotary, Barnsley RC and Stainborough RC.

Ten years on the monthly gathering is more popular than ever, garnering interest from many and earning a Proud of Barnsley nomination.

To celebrate a decade in action, they will be hosting a birthday part on September 30 with entertainment from award-winning Oliver Harris, Alison Melling and a special guest appearance from Mayor John Clarke.

Kathy said: “We are all delighted with the success of the Superjam and the joy it brings to so many people.

“We know that sadly many of our guests who live with dementia will not remember the event afterwards, but they undoubtedly enjoy the moment.

“It is hugely important for them, their families, their carers, the entertainers, the volunteers from GXO, Amy Louise-Egley and Donna Merrills, and for us as organisers.

“Special thanks as always to the principal sponsors, Holiday Inn Barnsley, Haywood and Padgett’s Bakery, Visiting Angels South Yorkshire, GXO and Music Makes Memories and to the Barnsley Chronicle for regular features which have undoubtedly helped to make this monthly event a huge success.”
