DEMPSEY Wale is being told to prepare for a different kind of challenge as he returns to the ring tomorrow night.

The unbeaten Brampton lightweight, 28, is scheduled to fight India’s Lovepreet over six rounds at the Metrodome.

Dempsey’s elder brother and the show’s promoter Josh Wale says this is the sort of fight he has been clamouring for. He said: “He (Lovepreet) has obviously got a winning record and he’s a bit of a character as well.

“These are the sort of challengers you have got to overcome if you want to reach title level. You have got to beat these kind of kids and whoever is put in front of you. There are eight years between myself and Dempsey so it’s a bit like second dad syndrome.

“I just want him to do well and I am enjoying managing his career and taking the fights at the right time.”

Though not looking past Lovepreet, Dempsey has another date pencilled in at the Metrodome on November 23.

It will close out a year during which he has had to fight back from an ill-timed shoulder problem which kept him out for the bulk of a year.

Josh added: “It’s about taking steps and taking them at the right time.

“I would say it’s like a jigsaw and it’s about putting all the pieces together. Injuries and setbacks are just another part of it. He has not really had a bad performance so it’s case of keep building. The next step will be in November and then we will see where we are for next year.”

It’s a 12-fight scheduled bill at the Metrodome tonight and the most extensive since Josh made the jump from fighter to promoter.

“I am just as proud about what I am doing as a manager as I was as a fighter.

“I have got 17 professionals signed up now and I have got a reputation already after just three years. I’ve worked extremely hard to get to this stage.”

Though Dempsey will be the only Barnsley man on the bill, it will feature Josh’s new signing in Doncaster’s Tommy Sams. Mexican charge Ramiro Garcia Lopez is in an eight rounder with unbeaten Bradford man Mohammed Subhaan. Former Barnsley Star ABC amateur Red Johnson, who fights out of Sheffield, is also on the card.
