Barnsley have signed American international forward Jonathan Lewis until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old previously had a spell in England with Bradford City, during the 2015/16 season, but did not play a game and was briefly loaned to Farsley Celtic.

He then spent three years with New York City and five with Colorado Rapids - playing 175 MLS games and scoring 29 goals.

He has eight caps for the USA, with two goals, between 2019 and 2021.

Lewis, who was a free agent, can play as a winger or up front.

Sporting director Mladen Sormaz said; “After the window closed, we took a look at the free agents available and Jonathan stood out as a player we feel can help us. He’s quick, he has the ability to score goals as well as create opportunities and he has a good level of experience in the US domestically and as an international. The MLS season is about to start and Jonathan had been training with Toronto ahead of the new campaign so we know he has a decent level of fitness and should be in a position to make an impact straight away. We welcome Jonathan to Oakwell for we hope will be a successful spell.”
