BARNSLEY Council leader Sir Steve Houghton has paid tribute to a former mayor who died last weekend.
Trevor Naylor became a councillor in May 1974 and served in the Wombwell South ward up until the boundary changes in 2004, when he represented Hoyland Milton up until his retirement in 2010.
He enjoyed a year as mayor between 1991 and 1992, and was also the chairman of highways.
Sir Steve said: “Trevor was a long-standing councillor and a former Mayor of Barnsley.
“He’ll be remembered as a forthright speaker and a well-known character in Wombwell and Hoyland.
“Our condolences go to his family.”
