A FORMER young organist of the year performed a ‘superb’ show for Barnsley residents at the weekend.
Declan Poole, 23, from Millom, Cumbria, began theatre organ lessons at the Astoria Centre in Barugh Green when he was just 15.
In 2015 he won the ATOS Young Organist of the Year (UK) and began cameo appearances at numerous concerts shortly after.
He performed where it all began for him on Saturday, and Kevin Grunill, who trained Declan was thrilled with his renditions.
Kevin, who is also the chairman of the Astoria Centre, said: “Declan performed a superb afternoon of music, which ranged from stage and screen favourites like My Fair Lady and West Side Story to more modern pieces such as a Eurovision winning song and the Disney classic - Beauty and the Beast.
“It’s clear to see why Declan is becoming a sought after performer and we are thrilled to have played a part in his musical development and training at the Astoria Centre, here in Barnsley.”
