AN OLD sixth form college in Barnsley town centre could be turned into a new secondary school to meet mounting pressure on pupil places.
Barnsley is running out of secondary school places and senior councillors will consider a range of options to create more when they meet on Wednesday.
The favoured way forward to meet demand, which will be recommended to cabinet next week, is to refurbish the former sixth form building on Eastgate belonging to Barnsley College. This is likely to be ‘less costly’, take less time to remodel and would be close to public transport.
