Darfield took centre stage when the Romans arrived in Barnsley last week.
A legion of re-enactors descended upon the town to celebrate the opening of the Roman Empire exhibition at the Experience Barnsley museum in the town hall, which was mostly composed of coins found in hordes in Darfield.
Also on display was a bronze bracelet in the shape of a snake which was found in Billingley. Darfield-raised author and metal detector Martyn Johnson, 71, worked with the council and Professor Joann Fletcher on the exhibition, which has also brought the TV Egyptologist to the village.
"Martyn has been taking me around Darfield, because I'm from Dodworth Road originally, looking at the lay of the land and how the village would have linked up to to other sites in the area."
