High Street toilets in Wombwell will close for the day on Wednesday.

The public amenity has been stongly criticised by residents and councillors as 'unfit for use' due to leaks, a strong smell of urine and people repeatedly sleeping in the disabled area.

But it will close on April 24 to allow the council's Neighbourhood Pride team to fit new air bricks.

Wombwell Coun Dick Wraith described the situation as 'D-day for the toilets' at a public meeting in the down and pressed the council to spend a substantial amount of money to bring the amenity up to par.
