Dearne and District are almost certain to finish in the NCEL play-offs after an excellent 2-0 win at home to title-challengers Wakefield on Tuesday.

Bayley Lowe and Jamie Austin netted in front of a crowd of 413.

Fourth-placed Dearne need just a point from their final three games to guarantee a place in the play-offs.

This is Dearne’s first season at NCEL level and their manager is Zeph Thomas who was appointed in September after Jason Blunt quit.

Thomas said: “We’re very happy with the result.

“I thought the lads were excellent and dominated all departments.

“We could have been 4-0 up at half-time.

“It’s the best performance since I’ve been in charge.

“It was a good crowd and we wanted to put on a show for them, which we did.

“We’re in a good place and long may it continue.

“We’ve got players coming back who haven’t been available.

“We want to finish as high as we can and, if we get into the play-offs, it’s a great achievement in our first season at this level and the play-offs are a lottery so anything can happen.”
