A MAN and two teenagers have been sentenced for their thuggish actions in the large-scale disorder at the Holiday Inn Express in August.
Nathan Annables’ behaviour included pushing a metal cart into police officers, throwing a large bin at them and also stoking a fire at the side of the hotel.
After being contacted by police, Annables handed himself in and when questioned, the 25-year-old claimed that he could not remember what he was doing on the date in question.
He also refused to explain why a phone number, thought to be Annables’ personal mobile number, was cell-citing in the location of the hotel.
Despite his lack of remorse and accountability, Annables, of Manor Drive, Goldthorpe, pleaded guilty to violent disorder.
He was jailed for three years at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.
Also appearing in court was a 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons.
The teenager was seen as part of the violent mob who were throwing missiles at officers and attempting to kick those in the police cordon.
The boy was given a 12-month referral order at Sheffield Youth Court after pleading guilty to violent disorder.
A 16-year-old boy, who appeared at Barnsley Youth Court on Tuesday, was also handed a ten-month referral order for his role in the disorder.
He was seen throwing stones at police officers in front of the hotel and the boy’s mum handed him in to a police station after she recognised him from a media appeal.
Three other Barnsley men - Graham Doherty, 35, Levi Fishlock, 31 and Jake Turton, 38 - are due to be sentenced over the coming weeks.
A police spokesperson said: “Following the disorder experienced on August 4, 89 people in total have now been charged.
“A total of 74 of the 89 people have now pleaded guilty to the offences they have been charged with - 67 of these 74 have been sentenced for over a combined total of 149 years in prison.
“In excess of 50 officers were injured as a result of the violence, with one left unconscious following a head injury, another suffering a suspected fractured elbow and others suffering suspected broken bones.”
