A MAN who was fatally stabbed in Monk Bretton over the weekend has been named.
Alan Sutton, 41, was found by emergency services on Sunday when police were called to Burton Road over reports of an altercation between a group of men.
Alan was found with suspected stab wounds to the chest and despite the best efforts of medical workers he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people - a 19-year-old woman and two men aged 21 and 32 - have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A further two men have since been arrested, a 40-year-old on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and assault, and a 41-year-old arrested on suspicion of affray and assault.
Only the 21-year-old man remains in custody, with the rest released on bail pending further enquiries.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood, said: “Our enquiries into Alan’s tragic death are continuing at pace.
“We made several arrests within hours of the incident and are keen to hear from anyone with any information that could help our investigation into this incident.
“Our thoughts are with Alan’s family at this difficult time.”
