TWO young girls from Mapplewell will take part in a ten-mile sponsored walk tomorrow to raise funds for a local cat rescue service.

Frankie Clark, nine, and her sister 11-year-old Eirian are hoping to raise £200 for Buttons Cat Rescue which supports animals across the borough.

Eirian said: “In October 2023 we rescued two cats from a rescue centre - they are called Bailey and Henna.

“They soon got to know us and are now part of our family.

“We love them so much.

“My mum (Carrie) saw an advert for Buttons Rescue wanting foster carers so we decided we should give it a go.

“At the beginning of December Tootsie and Aria came to stay.”

The rescue currently has 83 cats and kittens in foster care across all areas - and the girls are hoping to help with the cost of this by completing tomorrow’s sponsored walk.

They have already raised £120 and donations can be made here

Frankie added: “The cost of looking after all these cats and kittens is very high and Buttons rely heavily on donations from the public.

“This is why on June 8 at 10am we are doing a ten-mile sponsored walk to raise money for them.

“Our walk will consist of five, two-mile laps starting and finishing at Landon’s Diner in the village.

“We will also be accepting donations of cat food, litter and toys on the day.”
