ATHERSLEY Rec suffered a major blow in their Division One relegation fight as they were thrashed 6-0 at fellow strugglers Parkgate on Wednesday.
The Penguins were 2-0 down after 14 minutes then conceded four more in the last 15 minutes. They are now last, five points off safety with eight games left.
Rec have another big match tomorrow as they visit third-bottom Swallownest.
They had lost 2-0 at home to Wakefield on Saturday.
Penistone Church won 3-2 at Eccleshill United on Tuesday in the Premier Division. After Cameron Simpson cancelled out an early home goal, Church went 2-1 down but Keightley levelled with a penalty in the 80th minute then won it in the 85th with his 100th goal for the club.
Penistone are now fifth, nine points off the two promotion places with nine games left.
Manager Stephen Lenthall said: “It was a superb win and the lads put a great shift in.
“The penalty might not have been a penalty but we should have had one on Saturday. We definitely deserved the win.
“We want to keep winning and put pressure on the top two as long as we can.”
