FIREFIGHTERS were called to a pylon fire on Royston Lane this morning which caused temporary power cuts to a number of homes.
At 5.27am, the crew from Cudworth fire station attended the scene after smoke was reported from a farmer’s field near Carlton College.
A spokesperson from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Upon arrival, the crew found some cabling alight at the foot of an electricity pylon.
“The fire spread up the cable, within an enclosed metal container, to around two thirds of the pylon’s height.
“It was fully extinguished by around 8.30am with no injuries. The cause is reportedly accidental.”
Power was reportedly cut to a number of homes, but was quickly restored.
