YEAR-LONG waiting times faced by children and young people wanting to access mental health services will be eased with the opening of a new young person's well-being centre in Barnsley, it is hoped.

Voluntary group Therapies for Anxiety, Depression and Stress - or TADS - has won £342,434 in Big Lottery funding to fund a project working with young people aged 11 to 18 in Barnsley to support their mental well-being.

TADS' manager Karen Mitchell said the hope is to relieve some of the pressure being felt by Barnsley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) which has a waiting list of 12 months or more.

The centre will be based at The Core, County Way, providing a drop in service for young people Monday to Thursday, 2.30pm to 5.30pm, as well as a weekly support group, 5.30pm to 7pm, and complimentary therapies to young people who require further support.
