POLICE officers have been working ‘relentlessly’ in Hoyland to stabilise the area against organised crime - and Australian officers joined in to learn more about the scheme.

Officers from Barnsley South’s Neighbourhood Policing Team recently held the day of action in Hoyland to disrupt crime in the area.

It was part of the force’s ‘Clear, Hold, Build’ plan which sees organised criminals and their associates cleared from an area through relentless pursuit activity.

A police spokesperson said: “Hoyland has been a targeted area of Clear, Hold, Build and we are now working relentlessly to stabilise the area through high visibility police patrols to build a strong and resilient community.

“During the day, 12 intelligence reports were submitted for officers to build a bigger picture of those involved in criminality and seek to take action, one vehicle was seized for having no MOT and another waste carrier was dealt with for having an elapsed licence.

“Officers also attended local schools and gave an in-depth presentation and talk to children that have been identified as being at risk of child exploitation by criminals.

“A further clean-up was done of graffiti and dog mess and signage was put up to deter people from acting callously.

“A highlight of the day was welcoming the Australian police to Barnsley to allow them to understand how Clear, Hold, Build works within an area and showcasing the positive impact it has had in our community.”
