BARNSLEY Museums is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Volunteering Week.

The national event shines a light on the work volunteers do for their local communities.

Since 2018, volunteers have dedicated over 76,000 hours of volunteering time across the museum’s five sites, worth £1,028,272.

Jon Finch, head of culture and visitor economy at Barnsley Council, said: “We’re proud to be celebrating the hard work of our dedicated volunteers during this special anniversary week and would like to offer them our sincerest thanks.

“Volunteering is hugely important and really enhances our borough, making it an even more special place to live, work, visit and learn.

“We would love more people to get involved and help make a difference in our communities.”
