Barnsley FC women were beaten 2-1 in the North East Regional League Cup final by Sunderland under 23s.
The Reds went 2-0 down at Norton and Stockton before Amy Dawson’s late consolation.
They missed out on a double having already won their league title and gained promotion to the fourth tier.
The result ended a run of ten straight wins and completed their season.
