A SCHOOL’S appeal for the public to hand in unwanted musical instruments is striking the right chord after the first donations were dropped off.
Outwood Academy in Shafton has already received acoustic guitars, drums and a cornet and head of music Kate Wragg has appealed for more local businesses to get involved.
“Our instrumental appeal started last week and we’re hoping to keep it running until April 12,” she added. “Learning to play an instrument is proven to help children develop in so many ways. We’ve more children than ever learning to play, either from scratch or attending after-school clubs. The aim of the appeal is to develop an ‘instrument store’ within the academy so that students can borrow and take them home.
“We’re grateful for the donations we’ve already had and those which we’re hoping will come.
“Anyone wishing to do so can drop them off at the academy.”
