BARNSLEY is on cue to become the international home of pool after a town centre club won the right to host televised championships.
If successful, the ambitious plan by the International Pool Association would see the sport become synonymous with Barnsley in the same way snooker is in Sheffield.
The IPA is the sport’s largest regulatory body, and it has been collaborating with the Miscues club on Cheapside to create a permanent venue to hold televised events.
As well as adding seats for a TV audience, the association has installed permanent fixtures for cameras and lighting.
Previously the top professional events were held at temporary venues in different locations around the country, such as hotels and theatres, but now the IPA wants the sport to stay put.
Miscues co-owner Amanda Speight said she was delighted that the club had won a five-year contract, which could see it hosting up to six events a year.
